Independent digital marketing agency pushes ahead with Wirral expansion despite pandemic

A multi award-winning independent North West digital marketing agency is expanding its team to create five new roles and moving to new premises in a bid to ride the pandemic wave and strengthen the business. Despite a devastating three months of zero income, Wirral-based agency OON Media continued to trade throughout lockdown and took the decision early in the crisis not to furlough staff. Directors also took a reduced salary to help sustain the company. All pre-booked work was cancelled, so the team took the opportunity to conduct an internal skills analysis to identify areas to develop, strengthen and expand its portfolio of services, skills and expertise to help them stand out in the creative sector of Liverpool City Region and the wider North West area. As part of the evaluation, OON Media have now relocated to bigger premises in Birkenhead, which are better suited to the growing needs of the business. The new base will enable the team, in partnership with Stage UK, to create a fully lit studio facility for filming, still photography, and the filming of musicians and bands – providing them with enough space to accommodate growth plans spanning the next three years. It will also provide a safe space for staff and visitors, and is better located for improved transport links. Five new job roles also are being created to cover production and post-production; social media and online marketing; website development; graphic design; and media and communications. The jobs range from full-time to a flexible freelance basis. Christopher O’Neill is a First Class Honours Graduate from Dublin University. He has relocated from Ireland to join OON Media as a full-time member of staff to work on production shoots. Christopher is in post now. The second post is full-time, and an experienced post-production editor will be joining the team shortly. Two further full-time staff will also be recruited as part of the Government’s Kickstart scheme to help young people aged between 16 and 24 into jobs and training. The successful candidates will be trained in social media and online marketing, website development, and graphic design. The client facing roles will support OON Media projects, client activity and campaigns, and showcase the agency’s presence within the SME sector. The application process is already underway, and the two roles will be filled by November. Former journalist Erica Dillon completes the team in a flexible role, providing media and communications support on a freelance basis. Team training and staff development is key at OON Media. One staff member is currently training to become a fully qualified drone pilot after the agency invested in a 4K drone to capture high quality footage. The team’s stills photographer is also expanding his portfolio to include classic car photography and video production. Shortly before lockdown, OON Media invested in state-of-the-art camera equipment for its in-house video production work. Production cameras are Netflix and BBC-approved and shoot footage in 4K.
